Jannui

Jannui

Usually I have a few weeks of being all-in on my new year's resolutions before the onset of ennui caused by cold, light deprivation, and reading the news.

I've given it a name: Jannui. Now I'm considering trademarking it and transforming it into a multi-media company that celebrates the power of naps and other and self-soothing activities.

Very on-brand for Jannui was the winter storm that hit Portland this week and last; a weather event that yields too little pretty snow but plenty of destruction in its wake. One silver lining: I've been obsessed with the idea of getting to "inbox zero" with my pantry and freezer, and now I've made a respectable dent in my supply of legumes and frozen chicken thighs. Of course, having one of my jugs of Boat Sauce in the fridge proved very beneficial: for building flavor in a lentil soup that went to my neighbors without power, and for mixing with mayo and yogurt for a simple marinade to coat chicken thighs and cauliflower for a sheet pan dinner. And Boat Dust has seen a lot of mileage in the last few days as well; not only with many bowls of popcorn, but also in seasoning buttered breadcrumbs for my very luxurious macaroni and cheese that should be compulsory for any winter storm.
