End Of Summer Hits and Misses

End Of Summer Hits and Misses

In MY America, the entire month of August would be a federally-sanctioned holiday.  For one month, UBI would kick in and we'd all be able to take a month to meditate, take long walks, listen to birds and insects, and eat simple, seasonal foods that we prepare ourselves.  No eating in restaurants, no tourism, no trying to get anywhere.  Nothing but essential commerce and services, and overtime pay for those working.

No one has to worry about me running for office on this platform, I have too many skeletons in my closet.  Still, even though I haven't taken much time off and currently have 2 jobs, I am trying my hardest to to take my own prescription for America.

Sure, I've been up to some stuff, like the PDX Hot Sauce Expo, where Bobbie's Boat Sauce received a cameo in the featured entertainment : Oregon Pro Wrestling's Royal Rumble, and I'm super excited to vend at the Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend on Sept 9-11; I've waited 3 years for this event!

I also have to confess that I've fallen into a terrible habit: leaving the camera off when I cook.  No filming = no cooking videos or food photography = no content.  I conduct a daily self flagellation for not adding to the "discourse" on TikTok or Instagram, but at the moment, it's my second-most vital form of stress management and self-care (the first being Weightlifting, big shout out to my coach Gabi Dixson and Ironside Training).

So, I apologize for that, but I will give you a rundown of things I am enjoying.  My peach salsa, for one thing.  This is THE moment that peaches, tomatoes, and chili peppers are at their peak and this recipe is great for fish, pork, whatever.  Oh my god - halloumi with that salsa, maybe even as a taco?!

My friend Jason sent me a link to this turkey burger recipe, suggesting it would be good with Bobbie's Boat Sauce instead of BBQ Sauce.  Jason, you were totally right!  But there's no evidence.  It's on my list.

I'm one of the few people I know who can abide eggplant so one night I made Marcella Hazan's eggplant sauce for pasta, but added a good squeeze of Boat Sauce to the pan.  I may or may not have just eaten most of the sauce on its own.

Last, but only for this blog post, is the reliable, indispensable, egg sandwich.  The summer edition is a hybrid BLT, with Boat Sauce between the bacon and egg.  Messy, but guess what? The camera is off.
